Why does my affidavit list a different state than where it was published?
Column uses a method known as Remote Online Notarization, which allows our notaries to notarize documents remotely, regardless of their physical location or the location of the signatory. This process is completely legal and has been widely adopted. It allows us to operate nationwide and provide efficient service to our clients.
As such, the state and county at the top of the affidavit may not be the same as the state where the notice is published or where the signatory resides. Under the U.S. Constitution, states abide by full faith and credit accorded to foreign state affidavits. This means that all states must respect and give full credit to affidavits issued by notaries from other U.S. states. Therefore, rest assured that your affidavit is legally valid.
