Should my newspaper allow customers to edit notices?
Column encourages all newspapers to allow self-serve advertiser editing. When advertiser editing is enabled, your customers can edit notices only if:
You haven't created an invoice for the notice, and
The ad deadline for the first publication date hasn't passed.
This means that advertisers can only make edits before you've finalized the layout and pricing of the notice and before the notice moves to pagination.
In other words, any changes the advertiser makes will be reflected in the pricing and final formatting of the notice, so you don't have to worry about giving your customers access to self-serve edits.
Here are some benefits of advertiser editing:
Provide better customer service. Rather than reaching out to you or to Column Support — and then waiting for a response — advertisers can make self-serve edits and get immediate reassurance that their edits have been made.
Save time when processing notices. If your customer sees a typo or formatting error in their notice, they can make the change after reviewing the notice proof. That way, you don't have to make the edit yourself.
Receive automatic emails about notice edits. When an advertiser edits their notice, you'll receive an email letting you know changes have been made. You can turn these emails off by contacting help@column.us.
If you decide advertiser editing is right for your paper, turning this feature on is easy! Simply go to My Organization > Advertising Deadlines and click the toggle to "Allow customers to edit notices."
