What does "invoiced outside Column" mean?
For many of our publisher partners, Column manages the invoicing, billing, and payment of invoices via our platform and payment processor (Stripe). For others, newspapers have maintained their standard billing process and will issue an invoice directly to the customer with payment instructions. Invoices managed by the newspaper will be marked "Invoiced Outside of Column."
The billing status on the Notice table (Orders) and the Notice Detail page will be "Invoiced Outside of Column." The View Invoice and Pay Invoice buttons on the Notice Detail page will not be enabled. The billing status on the Notice Detail page will include the total cost for information purposes only.
If a notice is "invoiced outside Column," that means...
You won't receive an invoice in Column
You cannot pay through Column
The publisher will send you an invoice or statement outside of Column
Payment should be submitted directly to the publisher per your usual billing terms and the payment instructions on the invoice or statement you have received.
Who receives invoices outside Column?
"Invoice outside Column" applies only to billable customers who have accounts with the publisher and pay recurring invoices from that publisher. If you're unsure whether you have an account with a publisher, please contact the publisher directly.
When will I receive my invoice from the publisher?
That depends on the publisher's billing cycle! Please contact the publisher directly to ask when you'll receive your invoice or statement. Column does not have access to this information. Typically, newspapers bill monthly.
Can I submit payment through Column instead?
Nopeāif your notice has been invoiced outside Column, the invoice will not be available for payment online.
When and where will my notice appear on the publisher's invoice?
Column doesn't have access to that information because each publisher has a different invoicing process for billable customers. Please contact the publisher to find out what billing period your notice will be included in and where on your invoice or statement you can find your notice.
Can I send a payment for a publisher's invoice via check to Column along with payment for Column invoices?
No. We recommend paying invoices separately per the instructions on each invoice. As payment terms and instructions vary between Column and the newspaper, keeping the payments separate is best to ensure invoices are paid and processed on time. Payments sent to the wrong address will delay processing or a refund will be issued.
