How do I place a notice?

Edited

Log in to Column with this link column.us/notices, or continue with the newspaper-specific link you've been provided.

Is this your first time using Column? Please create an account, here’s how.

1. Click ‘Place a notice’

Next, you'll select a newspaper. If you started with a newspaper-specific link, you might not see this option– That's alright! Rest assured; the newspaper is already selected and you can go to the next step of this guide.

You can search for a newspaper by

  1. typing in its name, or

  2. using the state and county filters to find newspapers serving specific geographic areas.

2. Create Your Notice

Newspapers accept various notice types for publication. If presented with a pre-set list, please select one that best fits your needs from the drop down menu.

There are two ways to create a notice in Column:

  1. Some notice types need to follow a specific template. If your notice type is templated, please provide all required information to proceed.

  2. Otherwise, you can start creating your notice in the text box by typing or copy-and-pasting. Some newspapers may allow you to upload a PDF or Microsoft Word document.

You’ll see a preview of your notice on the right-hand side of your screen. Complete your notice content and proceed to the next step.

3. Select Publication Dates

Please give your notice a name for tracking purposes (this will not appear in your published notice). Then, select publication dates. You can also take the following actions in this step:

  • Automatically mail an affidavit (ex. to a courthouse) once your notice finishes running in the newspaper and the digital affidavit is uploaded to your account.

  • Send an invoice to a third party by mail or email. Please note that you are still responsible for ensuring the invoice gets paid.

4. Click Review & Confirm

Make sure your notice is ready to submit. A draft of your notice will be saved if you exit the placement flow or close your webpage. Drafts are accessible in your account and can be finished at any time.

Click Submit when you're ready to finalize your notice placement. If you don't click Submit, the publisher will not receive your notice.

Completed Order

You can review your order on the notice detail page. Please wait for the newspaper to issue you an invoice unless one is automatically generated. You'll receive an email notification once your invoice is ready.

Need to request edits? You can leave a Feedback Note in the Activity Log! You'll receive an email alert when the publisher responds to your request.
